  The Forest Service is issuing a Forest Order to close an area and roads on the Mount Shasta and McCloud Ranger Districts during winter conditions to minimize natural resource damage and to maintain a safe area for winter recreation use.

• Bailey Cove Road Closure Order

  Sep 4 – Dec 31, 2026 · Order 14-25-11

  The Forest Service is issuing a Forest Order for public safety to close Forest Road No. 34N40Y (Bailey Cove) and Forest Road No. 34N40YA on the Shasta Lake Ranger District within the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. These roads are in an area undergoing construction from two failed culverts.

• Panther Basin and Panther Meadows Area and Use Restrictions

  Sep 3, 2026 – Sep 3, 2028 · Order 14-26-10

  There is a continuing need to protect natural resources in the Panther Basin and the Panther Meadows Areas, which are located on Mt. Shasta within the Mt. Shasta Ranger District of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. This order is issued because of high-concentrated recreational use that caused extensive resource damage to sensitive meadows (trampling), water quality concerns (for example, bathing in streams), long-term dispersed camping, and public nudity. The Panther Basin area and the Panther Meadows area cannot withstand the recreation impacts without long-term consequences to the environment. Sensitive vegetation continues to be trampled and dispersed camping areas continue to expand in size causing soil compaction and other resource damage. Additionally, Panther Meadows is considered a sacred area by several local Native American groups that use the area for spiritual ceremonies, prayer, and healing.

• Upper Ski Bowl Parking Restriction Order

  Aug 29, 2026 – Aug 29, 2028 · Order 14-26-09

  There is a need to protect natural resources in the Panther Basin area, which is located on Mt. Shasta within the Mt. Shasta Ranger District. This Forest Order will restrict overnight parking at the Upper Ski Bowl parking lot due to a high concentration of recreational use which is causing extensive resource damage to nearby sensitive meadows (trampling) as well as water quality concerns. The Panther Meadows and Upper Ski Bowl area cannot withstand the recreational impacts without long-term consequences to the environment. Sensitive vegetation continues to be trampled, and dispersed camping areas are expanding in size causing soil compaction and other resource damage.

• Gateway Area Trails Closure 2026

  Aug 21, 2026 – Dec 31, 2027 · Order 14-26-08

  The order will close two trails in the Gateway Trails System (Magma – 04W50 and Deadwood – 04W51) on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. The closure is necessary to reduce risk to public safety within an area of massive white fir tree die off which has created many hazard trees along the trails. The Forest Service in conjunction with CalFire will be felling the hazard trees that pose a serious risk.

• Mount Shasta Plantation Area Camping and Fire Restrictions

  Jul 29, 2026 – Jul 29, 2027 · Order 14-26-06

  This order intends to address concerns related to dispersed camping impacts in the Mount Shasta Plantation Area. Specific concerns include: Concentrated and repeated sanitation use within and uphill of private water wells; campfires and wood gathering adjacent to private homes and subdivisions; expansion of de-vegetated sites that are repeatedly used; the introduction of noxious weeds and non-native plant materials; noise and visual impacts on popular developed recreation day-use sites and fee sites (campgrounds) that are next to the dispersed camping areas. The Forest Service has also received numerous complaints from residents who live adjacent to the National Forest and within the community including escaped campfires, vandalism, and threats to their personal safety from long-term dispersed campers and recreational users of the National Forest.

• North Fork Coffee Creek Trail Closure Order

  Feb 20, 2026 – Dec 31, 2027 · Order 14-26-03

  The Shasta-Trinity National Forest is closing a portion of the North Fork Coffee Creek Trail. The closure is necessary to protect public health and safety as the Forest Service, in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration, will soon start a construction contract to replace the Lower North Fork Coffee Creek Trail Bridge that was destroyed by fire.

• Trout Creek Bridge Closure Order

  Jan 17, 2026 – Jan 17, 2027 · Order 14-26-02

  The Trout Creek Bridge, a foot bridge in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, has a large crack that has fully compromised its structural integrity. The bridge in its current state represents a public safety hazard.

• South Fork Suspension Bridge Closure

  Dec 24, 2025 – Oct 31, 2026 · Order 14-25-30

  Weather-related damage to the suspension bridge of the South Fork National Recreation Trail south of the Scott Flat Campground has forced a closure of the bridge due to public safety concerns.

• McCloud River Loop Dispersed Camping Restriction

  Sep 30, 2025 – Sep 30, 2027 · Order 14-25-23

  This Forest Order prohibits dispersed camping in the area known as the McCloud River Loop Recreation Area within the McCloud Ranger District, previous Order No. 14-24-02. The objectives of this Forest Order are to control visitor activity to prevent resource degradation within the McCloud River Loop Recreation Area.

  Restrictions in this order are necessary to promote public safety and protect the natural resources by reducing impacts to the wilderness environment by safeguarding visual quality, recreation use, cultural and archaeological preservation in the Trinity Alps Wilderness Area.

• Ah-Di-Na Area Closure

  Portions of AH-DI-NA area is closed to protect the endangered Sacramento River winter-run Chinook salmon eggs and fry in this area on the Shasta Lake Ranger District.

• Road Closure on Wild Mad Road

  May 15, 2025 – May 15, 2027 · Order 14-25-09

  A portion of Wild Mad Road near the community of Payne, CA, in Trinity County has been closed due to the failure of a culvert beneath the roadway. The closure is necessary due to safety concerns for the public.

• Mt. Shasta Wilderness Area Restrictions

  Nov 9, 2024 – Nov 8, 2026 · Order 14-24-08

  Mount Shasta Wilderness Restrictions will go into effect on Nov. 9, 2024 through Nov. 8, 2026 under Forest Order 14-24-08. This Forest Order renews restrictions to protect the habitat, soil, and natural resources of the Mt. Shasta Wilderness area and to provide for the safety of the public during their cultural, spiritual, and physical pursuits while visiting the area.

• Twin Arrows Area Closure

  National Forest system lands on the Mount Shasta Ranger District along South Fork Road (FS Road 40N26) are closed to prevent the spread of the forest pathogen ( Phytophthora lateralis) which affects Port Orford Cedar. Please do not stop or pull off the road surface when driving through this section.
