Privacy Policy

CampSiteHQ (campsitehq.com) is a guide to RV parks and campgrounds in Northern California. We collect as little personal information as we can. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

What we collect

• Alert sign-ups. When you sign up for weather and wildfire alerts, we collect your email address, the region and campgrounds you choose, how often you want emails, and whether you would like site news. We also keep the dates you signed up, confirmed, changed your settings or unsubscribed.
• Map downloads. When you download our PDF map, we collect your email address, the date, and whether you would like our newsletter. We email you the download link.
• Alert history. For each alert email we send, we keep a delivery record (which alert, when it was sent and whether it was delivered) so we never send you the same alert twice.
• Staff accounts. Accounts are created only for CampSiteHQ staff. For staff we store an email address, a securely hashed password and an account role.
• Visit statistics. Our hosting provider records basic visit statistics, such as pages viewed, the referring site, device type and approximate country, plus standard server logs that can include your IP address. We also use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site (pages viewed, how you arrived, device type and approximate location). We do not use advertising or remarketing features. We also count views and clicks on sponsored product picks, without storing anything that identifies you.
• Location. We never ask for or access your device's location. Distances on the site are calculated from campground coordinates.

How we use it

• To send the alerts you asked for, plus the confirmation and settings links that go with them.
• To send our newsletter (site news, new guides, gear picks and merch announcements), only if you opted in when you signed up for alerts or downloaded the map.
• To keep the site secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.

We do not sell, rent or share your personal information for advertising.

Confirming and unsubscribing

Nothing is emailed to you until you click the confirmation link we send. Every alert email includes a link to manage your alerts, where you can change campgrounds or frequency, turn site news on or off, pause, or unsubscribe from all emails. To have your data deleted, email us at campsitehq@gmail.com.

Cookies and browser storage

CampSiteHQ does not set advertising cookies. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (named _ga) to tell visits apart; you can block them in your browser settings or with Google's opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Staff who sign in have their login session kept in browser storage. Some content on the site loads from other services (listed below), and those services may receive your IP address and set their own cookies under their own privacy policies.

Services we rely on

• Lovable: website hosting, database and email delivery.
• Google Fonts: typefaces.
• Google Analytics: visit statistics.
• OpenStreetMap: map tiles.
• Recreation.gov, the National Park Service, Unsplash and Amazon: photos and product images.
• Caltrans, the National Park Service and HDRelay: live webcam images and video.
• The National Weather Service, CAL FIRE and the California Data Exchange Center: public data behind our conditions and alerts. We send these agencies campground coordinates only, never your information.

Affiliate links

Some product links go to Amazon and other retailers, and we may earn a commission when you buy. When you click one, you leave CampSiteHQ and the retailer's privacy policy applies. We do not send retailers your personal information. See our Advertisers & Affiliate Disclosure.

How long we keep it

We keep your alert subscription while you are subscribed, and after you unsubscribe so that we can honor your choice and never email you again. Delivery records are kept so we never send duplicate alerts. Email us any time and we will delete your data within 30 days.

Your choices and California privacy rights

You can ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, and to correct or delete it. Email campsitehq@gmail.com from the address you subscribed with and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of. We will never treat you differently for using these rights.

Security

Subscriber data is stored in a database that cannot be read from the public website, and only CampSiteHQ staff can access it. The settings link in your alert emails works like a password, so avoid forwarding those emails. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.

Children

CampSiteHQ is meant for adults planning trips. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has signed up, email us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date below. If the changes are significant, we will tell subscribers by email.
